Pilots Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge
The PHAK has just about every item of aviation knowledge you’ll need to know through your learning experience. I will frequently crack open this book with you to dive a little deeper into the information you’ll need to know and how you’ll be asked about it on your checkride. Make sure its ASA approved.
Airplane Flying Handbook
The AFH is a fantastic source of information on how you actually fly the aircraft. It spells out all the techniques and requirements for maneuvers as well as all the Do’s and Don’t associated with safely operating the airplane. As with the PHAK, make sure you get the ASA approved version.
Airmen Certification Standards
The ACS was designed to communicate the aeronautical knowledge, risk management, and flight proficiency standards for pilot certification. It is your blueprint for the checkride and I will help you learn to interpret the knowledge sections and how they will be presented by the Designated Pilot Examiner.
Ground School & Apps
King Schools Online Ground School
For decades the Kings have been a staple of many pilots online ground school experience. Their dry humor and detailed explanations are a fantastic way to get the knowledge needed in your preparation for taking the FAA written test.
Sporty’s Online Ground School
A slightly more updated approach to online ground school than king schools. Sporty’s offers a wide variety of learning experiences for each level of pilot certificate and rating.
Foreflight
The app that takes everything today’s pilot needs and loads it into one place. Weather briefings, flight planning, calculations, electronic log book… basically a high quality avionics in your lap. You can even file VFR and IFR flight plans.
